Goss & Crested China Display
This collection of Goss and Crested China has been accumulated over 30 years and totals over 1,700 items. There are many more extensive and much more valuable collections of crested china but this is probably the first collection in the country which is available for general viewing by the public and with the specific theme of Derbyshire.
The Stoke-on-Trent Company of W H Goss introduced heraldic China in the early 1880's.
The success and interest in porcelain generally led the Goss Company to produce small china items with the arms of the town to be sold alongside other souvenirs.
Amongst this collection are some models of significant landmarks like Bakewell and Eyam Crosses, Matlock Bath War Memorial, Buxton St Anne’s Well, Chesterfield Crooked Spire, Grinlow Tower, Haddon Hall Font, Tideswell Font and the Cat and Fiddle Inn.
